• So what's with the name of the site?
Baka means "stupid" in japanese, and Neko means "cat". So it basically means 'stupid cat'. The domain was originally purchased by my husband, Justin, and his good friend Levi many many MANY years ago when we were all in middle school. It was their site, and I had nothing to do with it at the time. They tried a bunch of different names (all of which were taken) before finally deciding on Bakaneko. Justin tells me that his cat Shadow (a kitten at the time), was too small to jump on his lap when he was sitting in his computer chair, so he'd climb up his pant leg. This is apparently where they got the idea of 'stupid cat'.

  • So who the heck are you?
I'm Athey. I sort of inherited the site. Levi lost interest and he and Justin grew apart. Justin had a Dreamcast section on the site for a long time, but he too lost interest. I got involved because Justin and I were dating and he knew I liked to make webpages and offered me some space on their server. My sections lasted, and their's didn't and I ended up sort of taking over.

  • Okay, lets have some details on you.
I'm now 25 years old (as of Aug 2007), and Justin is 26. We got married in 2004 after we each graduated from Digipen Instutue of Technology with Associates Degrees in 3D Animaton. We both currently work for Sony Computer Entertainment and make video games. We also have a daughter. Her name is Kaya and she was born in May 2006.

  • So when are you gonna add more tutorials?
Um... someday? Maybe? I always hope to have time to improve the site, but now that I'm no longer some carefree student with summer vacations and no debt or responsibility, I'm afraid I'm a little short on time to do anything about it. I have a 1-year old daughter and a full-time job and working on the site always ends up on the back-burner.

  • Can you make a tutorial on "........" for me?
Re-read the previous answer and you'll know the answer to this one.

  • Wait - you said you work for Sony?
So far I've worked on these games: Syphon Filter: Dark Mirror (PSP), Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow (PSP), Combat Ops (PSP EDI Title). I'm also working on another project here, but it's unannounced so I can't tell you about it :P
I'm a character artist, the studio's rigger, and then a general 3d artist when needed (in Logan's Shadow I made an entire level because we were short on level artists!). My husband Justin who also works at Sony is a Cinematics artist, and an NI artist (interactive animated events - basically any object that animates or reacts to the players actions). He also does lots of special effect stuff, and did a lot of Logan's Shadow's Havok objects.
