Female Torso and Legs

The Torso One of the things that I find are really important for a female figure is the shapy-ness acheived through certian bends in the torso. |

The key is in the alternate directions of the shoulders and the hips. If they shoulders and hips are parallel to each other, then the figure looks strait and stiff. Making the front chest, and the hips jutt out more then natural will help make the hips stand out more, and show off the waist. The best way to do this is by drawing the mid-line (line #2). It shows where the center of the front of the figure is alligned. Drawing in a vague representation of the rib cage will help you known where to start to come in for the waist, and to know how much space to leave before drawing in the hips guide. |

Generally, I start with the guide for the upper-leg of the leg closest to the POV (point of view). Where the knee belongs, I put a U shapped curve. The order of things isn't as important here as it is when drawing the guides for the torso. It doesn't matter if you draw the lower leg right after the upper leg, or if you draw the upper leg of the other one first. It's up to you. Which ever you feel most comfortable with. Just remember that the calve, at a profile view, jutts backwards from the rest of the leg. And when one foot is closer to the POV then the other one, it will be lower. (this can differ depending on the position, and from what view the POV is at) |
