![]() This was completed 7-11-00 The male head - just like the female head - should always begin with a cirlce (if you can't draw circle - get a circle guide from your local arts/crafts store.) There are three main views to learn for the face. The Portrait, the Profile, and the 3/4ths View. The 3/4ths view is pretty much any and everything that isn't a portrait or a profile ^_^.
These are just basic examples - each characters' face is shaped slightly different. Generally the younger the character is, the shorter and more curved and rounded off the face will be. More masculine characters often have long slender faces with chisled features (sharper areas with less gradual curve to them.
Once you've got a good understanding of how the face should be shaped, you add in the features. A male character's eyes can be the same as or completely different from those of a female character. Generally it depends on the style of the artist. I would suggest you use a fairly different type of eye for each of your characters - but some artists use the same type of eyes for everyone. Often times the eyes of a male character are slightly smaller then those of your average female character. Sometimes they are much slimer and longer - but when you've got a young male character, the eyes may be just as large and cute as a cute female characters' - and a female characters' eyes could be long thin and slender too. Really it varies so much that there is no set rule. It's a judgement call.
I hope that this helped out and that - above all else - it was better then the old tutorial that used to be here ^_^. This was completed 7-11-00.
