SETTING
Time Period: dark/middle ages-ish
Magic: Very common, but mostly diety granted, so you find a lot more priest types wielding magic than mages who draw their power from their own will (although they do exist)
Technology: very limited, and magically aided. Most advanced weapons of the times are still swords and long-bows. Cross-bows haven't been invented yet because they make plate-armor useless, and I like plate armor. ^_^ People don't have refrigerators or door bells, but if you really put your mind to it, there's probably a spell for it.
Climate: Kaslin - northern areas are desert, southern is humid, but fertile year round.
Tokala - northern is fertile year round and humid, southern is frozen and only farmable for a few months per year.
Vahlis - nobody knows, but tales tell of a sort of Garden of Eden.
There are two continents and three countries. In the west there is the mainland and in the east is the island nation of Vahlis. On the mainland there are two countries - Kaslin in the north, and Tokala in the south. Each country has it's own founding diety which protects it by the same name.
Kaslin is aggressive and war-like. He represents the mercilessness of war and the prestige of battle. The perpetual conflict he causes keeps his country's economy and people strong and nationalistic, making for a race of violent, stuck up, well-fed jerks. They have their down-sides too - there is often in-fighting and competition for Kaslin's favor, and assassinations are commonplace.
Colors: red and yellow
Elements: fire and air
Symbols: Chalice and sword
Tokala is the Goddess of peace. She is the yin to Kaslin's yang. Where he makes war, she diffuses conflict. Where he burns down villages, she plants forests and seeds communities. Under her lead, her people live in harmony without the need to expand their borders constantly to survive. One of the keys to the Tokalan nation's success is that their leader is the Goddess herself, in avatar form. She inspires high morale in all her followers, and uses all her powers as a diety (albeit the weakest of the three) to aid her people in their fight to maintain their independence from Kaslin.
Colors: blue and green
Elements: Earth and Water
Symbols: Scepter and Cadeusus
Vahlis is the God of neutrality. 'He' is gender neutral (but I refer to it as he 'cuz it's easier). He is very reserved and mysterious. Not much is known about this God, even by his own people. He represents the balance between harmony and discord, His devout followers tend to take on these characteristics.
Colors: Black, White and Gray
Elements: Holy and Demonic
Symbols: Bow and Arrow, and Yin Yang
Each country has a Leader, a military advisor, and a foreign minister (except for Vahlis). Kaslin is 'led' by a twelve year old boy without much passion for conquest, but the military advisor who is a war hero seems to think differently. The foreign viseur advises the boy and never leaves his side - he is a Vahlian of indeterminate age. Tokala's leader is the incarnation of the Goddess herself, and while powerful, she lacks the resources to raise a significant army to combat Kaslin's advances on more than one front. Her military advisor is her most trusted High Priestess, and her foreign viseur is a reputed general of Vahlis sent to aid in military affairs. Vahlis has no foreign viseur. It's leader is a young master of archery and horsemanship who posesses powerful magics of both light and darkness. He is rarely seen, and many suspect he is dead, as the country is mainly run by the prominent military advisor and his subordinates.
Vahlis is rarely spoken about, and Vahlians themselves are practically legend. However, they are secretly the peacekeepers of the land, making sure that neither Tokala nor Kaslin gains the upper hand in the war on the main continent (kind of like Karla from Record of Lodoss War).
The story would take place either in Tokala or Kaslin, but most likely on or near the border between the two where border skirmishes constantly uproot the lives of the people
CHARACTERS

Ok. the first person is the diety herself, Tokala, in her avatar form. She's immortal age-wise, but being an avatar, she is able to be killed. that probably won't happen since she's got the powers of a God, but it is possible. If any of you have played Dragon Force for Sega Saturn, she's kind of like Astea, or Althena from the Lunar series. She's a very sweet and generaous person, but in a self-destructive sort of way. She's definitely got that "Powerful but will avoid bloodshed at any cost, even personal suffering" quality that Vash the Stampede posesses, but she won't surrender to Kaslin, as she knows well that her people would suffer under the rule of the oppressive Kaslinians. She has the character Hikari (meaning 'light' in Japanese...sorry for being so unoriginal...) on her forehead, identifying her as the goddess of purity and harmony. She is kind and forgiving, easily upset at any person's suffering, and has been known to aid even Kaslinians who she deems to be good people. However, the goddess of light has another side to her which fiercely protects her people. As well as a healer and powerful priestess, she is incredibly tactically minded, and all Tokalan military campaigns are organized and executed by her personally. When she dons her battle armor, she's a completely different person, often even getting into the melee herself. The last time the Tokalans and the Kaslinians were in a grand scale battle, she met with the former king and slew him in single combat, but lost her left arm in the process.
Her hair is an aquamarine blue-ish color, and her eyes are green

The second character is a wanderer from Vahlis.
Of coruse, he never lets anyone know this, as it may lead to his persecution
or capture, but he is the royal-born heir to the throne of Vahlis, and despite
the shady, powerful face Vahlis puts on to it's neighbors, without Faliel
they are at a sore disadvantage militarily. Their primary defense is an energy
shield, powered by the royal bloodline which runs all the way around the entire
island nation, barring all but those with express permission to pass through.
Currently with Faliel not present in the royal court (and wandering the Tokalan
lands) the shield is down. Since no one dares even try to approach the island
nation anymore it hasn't been discovered...yet.
Faliel posesses an immense magical strength which he has yet to reveal to
anyone, as he is the exact opposite of confrontational. In fact, he's downright
friendly and open about anything exept his past or his origins, for obvious
reasons, but he is so incredibly charismatic that anyone who talks to him
for a few minutes won't really mind. He's a master archer, and almost always
wears a hood to hide the silver hair and purple eyes that are so common in
Vahlians.\

The last bit is "villains", but depending on how this is written, they may not be. They're just on the "evil" side right now.
On the left is Jereth, captain of the Kaslinian
Royal Guard on the border between Kaslin and Tokala. He's been at the position
for ten years and knows what he's doing. he hates the Tokalas with a passion,
and the blood of one who knows nothing but battle courses through his veins.
He's quick to anger, and deadly with the Yari.
He has blonde hair, and brown eyes.
the older man in the heavy armor is the Kaslinian regent Damone, brother to
the late King who was slain in battle by the deity Tokala as their forces
engaged battle at the Tokalan capital 9 years ago. He is the acting King,
and, like his brother wants to take Tokala for his own. He has a great enmity
for his nephew however, who does not seem to be following in his father's
footsteps. He wants to keep the throne for himself, but when his nephew comes
of age in several years, he will have to concede to the rightful heir, and
he does not like that at all...
he's in his late 40's, has graying brown hair with a completely gray beard,
and milky blue eyes
The boy is Prince Vincent, of Kaslin. He's currently 12 years old, and upon
reaching the age of 15 he'll be anointed the true king of Kaslin. Unfortunately,
he's just like any other boy his age, and is prone to wanderlust, irresponsibility,
and bouts of conscience when it comes to ordering thousands of people slaughtered
just to gain a few acres of land. He has red hair, red eyes as is common in
Kaslinians, but posesses abnormally fair skin, suggesting to many that he
may be the result of an extra-marital affair by the king's wife, who died
in childbirth.

Name: Jin Mihpares
Age: 31 years
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 182 lbs
Eyes: brown
Hair: red
Details: I'll leave this section a little vague, because he does have to fit into whatever world is decided upon. So, that being said, he's formerly military - now a mercenary/bounty hunter. He did everything in his power to sever all ties with the government because of something terrible they did (massacred a town of innocents/blew up a space colony ... something like that), but he still keeps a few contacts with the military. He used to be one of the higher ranking generals, so the government would like to know about his whereabouts and what type of secret information he's doling out and to who, but all attempts at placing agents near and around him so far have been discovered and put to an end one way or another.
He carries around a katana. Now, depending on the time period, there are two ways one might go with this. If it's medi-evil, it's probably odd to see a foreign weapon. If it's present day or futuristic, people probably question his attachment to such a relic of a weapon (unless they've seen him use it, of course). He's deadly with it, and anybody within 30 feet of him is generally doomed with a long range weapon.
